Aaran Bell, who is autistic, joined ACE Popcorn to help make delicious popcorn.
The Marketing Team recently spoke to Aaran about his journey and how working for ACE Popcorn has been a positive impact on him.
Hi Aaran! To start with, just tell us a bit about yourself?
“I am Aaran, I am one of the Production Assistants that works at ACE Popcorn and in my spare time, I really enjoy video games.”
How would you describe ACE Popcorn?
“It’s a quality working environment, there’s amazing people that I work with, we have a lot of effective ingredients that are used to make the best popcorn we can and make popcorn that tastes amazing.”
Describe what a day looks like for a Production Assistant at ACE Popcorn?
“Half of it is cleaning as we need to make sure that we’re producing the best popcorn for our customers in the best working environment that we’re comfortable with.”

What have you enjoyed while working with ACE Popcorn?
“I would say the teamwork. As it’s mainly about working together and making sure we’re communicating so we know what each member is working on.”

Tell us the journey you went on to when applying?
“At the start, I was very hesitant, because me not being able to have experience like others, it was new for me to be in employment. I was able to pull through and the first day through the doors, I was enjoying every moment of it.”
How has your role changed your view on autism?
“Quite a lot, as I’ve learned a lot about myself in ways I never thought of and there’s moments where I am still learning about myself and wanting to improve in different aspects.”

How has staff members supported you in your role?
“They have been amazing and not once have I felt stressed. There will be times where it will be tough but need to push through together to complete the job we’ve signed up for.”
How has Autism East Midlands supported in helping you find employment?
“The Employment team, Sam and Klare to be specific, we’re helpful as Klare helped me with my CV and interview style questions. Sam helped me find jobs outside of Autism East Midlands until ACE Popcorn came about and then I was offered the opportunity to work in an accepting and inclusive environment with ACE Popcorn.”
